Built in 1924 by a real estate firm owned by Asa G. Candler Jr., son of the Coca-Cola magnate, the Briarcliff (now the Briarcliff Summit) was a luxury apartment building of 200 units designed by G. Lloyd Preacher, the designer of Atlanta’s City Hall. With the 1929 stock market crash, the Briarcliff’s apartments were subdivided into 400 units with the conversion of the building to a commercial hotel.

The Briarcliff Summit is on the National Register of Historic Places.
