We were happy to stumble upon this scene in New Mexico on the road to Roswell, a good way out of it. Poor Boys Metal Art shop. Though the sign said OPEN it was closed. I took a number of pics with H.o.p.’s Coolpix and was so blinded with joy that I didn’t realize until afterwards that the shutter was stuck halfway closed, as it now usually is (for which reason I’ll be letting him use the Kodak), but I did manage to get this shot and a couple others. There were vehicles out front but if any belonged to proprietors and the owners took notice of me stumbling around in the brush outside the frence snapping the photos, they didn’t want to be bothered with stepping out and saying, “Hello, thinking about buying anything because if you are we’ll open up shop!” Which was just as well, I guess.

Did a web search for Poor Boys Metal Art but came up with no website for them and no pics of them on Flickr. Did come across a mention of them on an 11/10/2006 blog of a person who’d just traveled through the area and who had also stopped at White Sands. November 2006 was a banner internet month for Poor Boys Metal Art.

    OMG!!!
I just looked at my notes of my winter trip to florida. I saw my note on poor boys metal art & decided to look them up. Found your coments on them. Then I realized that I was passing by in early November of 2006 as well!
I would love to get some of this art, really cool. I wanted to find out if I could afford it. They weren’t open when I went by & the answer to my question is usually No. So, I didn’t stop.
    But…. Really COOL stuff!!!

Too funny. They apparently really really need a web page!

They do have a website. The man that owns it is named Juan and he has suffered some tremendous losses during the past year including the death of his teenage son. His phone # is AC505 398-2893.

Just spoke to Juan at Poor Boy’s Metal Art. Thanks so much for the phone number. Even the phone operator couldn’t come up with a number.

This is a very nice place and a lot of variety in objects for sales. My wife and I enjoyed our stop and bought several pieces of metal which we cherish. You need to make the stop but it would be nice if the company had a web site where it art work could be seen.

    In Christ,

    Tom
