(Repost: Ouch, sorry. Reposting again because I’m so flabbergasted I made an error of omitting a word that has been corrected in boldface below.)

Relentlessly Optimistic points to this piece of absolutely insane news over at bobharris.com.

First. Before you go take a look. Don’t yet, don’t yet. Please, read the below first, excerpted from Bush’s Aug. 27 Statement on Federal Emergency Assistance for Louisiana.

The President today declared an emergency exists in the State of Louisiana and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local response efforts in the parishes located in the path of Hurricane Katrina beginning on August 26, 2005, and continuing.

The President’s action authorizes the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to coordinate all disaster relief efforts which have the purpose of alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population, and to provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures, authorized under Title V of the Stafford Act, to save lives, protect property and public health and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in the parishes of Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Caldwell, Claiborne, Catahoula, Concordia, De Soto, East Baton Rouge, East Carroll, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Franklin, Grant, Jackson, LaSalle, Lincoln, Livingston, Madison, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Pointe Coupee, Ouachita, Rapides, Red River, Richland, Sabine, St. Helena, St. Landry, Tensas, Union, Vernon, Webster, West Carroll, West Feliciana, and Winn.

What’s wrong with the above picture?

The majority of the Southern and Southeastern Parishes are not covered. Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, St. Tammany, Washington, St. Charles etc. Not mentioned.

Bob Harris doesn’t get it. He’s tried raising FEMA to find out what’s up but hasn’t yet had success.

Relentlessly Optimistic says, “If that’s not incompetence, what is it?”

So, what is it?

The United States is nothing more than one big laboratory for the fratboys.

What has always made Bush, Inc. the most reckless and dangerous administration in history is its willingness to do anything it wants at will because Americans utterly refuse to believe their government could act with outright malice.

What horribly chickenshit people we are to allow this to happen. If eternal vigilance is the price of freedom, it’s an understatement to say we wouldn’t know freedom if it bit us on the ass.

It’s criminal negligence, which is even worse than incompetence.

  4. Doug Chylewe

I’m certain the list of Parishes wasn’t made by President Bush but by an aide or staffer or even someone in FEMA. The omition doesn’t mean they won’t get needed help by any means. If the area was affected by the storm they WILL get help.I have never sensed so much anger in my life. Sad lives you must live…..

I have never sensed so much anger in my life.

And I’ve never sensed such clammy desperation on the part of the Fascist Right to defend its naked, psychopathic emperor.

    Sad lives you must live…..

Not sad. Saddened. The difference depends on whether or not one possesses a conscience.

Here in the tiny town of St. Gabriel, nearly 70 miles from New Orleans, FEMA has turned a massive, 125,000-square-foot warehouse into a morgue to process and identify the bodies. Medical examiners have now started round-the-clock operations to X-ray, photograph, fingerprint and take DNA samples from the victims.

    [snip]

AMANPOUR: But in this poor town, average annual income $9,000, a few people do fear property values and even their health could be affected. But the blunt reaction of Theresa Roy, who owns a small grocery store, startled us, with her apparent preference for a morgue, rather than a shelter.

THERESA ROY, RESIDENT OF ST. GABRIEL: I’d rather have them here dead than alive. And at least they’re not robbing you and you have to worry about feeding them.

Well, I see the Bush apologists are still out and roving the neighborhoods in gangs. Isn’t it past their bed time prayers? Did they brush their fangs?

Thanks,Arvin. Good to see you around. I hadn’t seen that piece on St. Gabriel. It’s a harsh bite of reality there in a number of ways.

Kate S., they’ve been posting comments here and there. I went and wandered a bit in the conservative blogs and came away pretty amazed. One person remarked as to how the “rescue fantasy” is going to burst when people see what kind of people they’re dealing with and that it will be “interesting” to see what happens with this “social experiment”.
