Was going through some old files and decided to finish working on this photo I took at New Echota in 2006. The photo was bad, bad. The camera I had then was starting to go on me (I loved the lens on that camera), but I always liked the tree and the quality of the light and so tried to salvage something of it.

This photo really says something to me, about mysterious, impenetrable places about depth, and finding one’s way into the hush that is meaningful silence. That pine tree, those limbs, almost crackle with a plant electricity.

It rained while we were there. It hadn’t looked like it would storm while we were there, but it did. One couldn’t see a mist rising up from the ground, but the trees in this part of the wood in particular had a weird look to them, as if slightly veiled, but it didn’t look like a regular mist playing with one’s perception. A crackling plant electricity really is about the best way to describe it. Not long after this the thunder started.
