The woman is based on a Deviantart model but I can’t find the pic to credit her. She looks entirely different here. The reference pic had her in Japanese style make-up, highly made up black eyes, dots under them, black slash over lips, in some sort of perhaps black lingerie, against a brown background with I think a framed picture to the side. Her eyes were brown and downcast and she had a more severe look on her face. If I remember correctly she didn’t have any rules about pic use. If anyone recognizes her then I can credit her.

One of the things I really respond to in this picture is the way you have handled her right arm (the viewer sees it on the left). It looks like something that has been printed off-register and gives it this wild animated quality. I’m not sure what black and pink may signify to you but when I use those colors it’s usually been because I was trying to get some kind of unpleasant feeling out so I wouldn’t feel tormented by it anymore. Black and pink cloud hanging over her head…I’d feel unnerved if one were over me.

Nina, I’d say I’d be a bit unnerved as well but on second thought I realize I’d say, “Look at those CLOUDS!”

I’ve been fighting a sinus infection and under a Benadryl haze so that perhaps has a bit to do with the colors, but I also liked how it had a kind of inverted Lotus effect, not as in inversion as dispelling what the lotus symbolizes, but just lotus. I started this picture months ago but never could think of how to finish it. Sunday we were at the Atlanta History Center where we saw a Lotus dance and was able to come home and finally finish the painting. The black with the pink was still with me from the hair of the dancers.
